             TECHNOLOGIES ON FLASH MEMORIES

hey nerds! today we are going to know about technology using in our SSDs.lets gets into the topic

SLC(SINGLE LAYER CELL)

By its name you might have guessed these type of ssd only having a single layers one bits per cell is stored Therefore it have an high reliablity and faster performance. But cost hits the sky. This is the these are only used for industrial purpose. These SLC have PE cycles of 100000 pretty big right, pretty costlier on the other hand.

MLC(MULTI LAYER CELL)

These cell have two layer so it can store two bits per cell. This is more reliahle than TLC with having a good performance and reasonable cost.(samsung uses MLC).This type will have PE cycles upto 10000

TLC(TRIPLE LAYER CELL)

Same these cell have three layers so it will store three bits per cell. This is much cheaper than the previous version. This have a decent data reliability and decent performance. The main reason to buy these SSD's is very much affordable. This will have PE cycles upto 3000

inaddition there are QLC are also there contains 4 bits per cell but it is not mostly used.because of its low cycle counts and less data reliability.

The SSD we seen in our market are mostly fall under TLC. Some are MLC.

BONUS:

If you actually seen crucial SSD you should have seen the term 3D NAND TECHNOLOGY. lets talk about it .This plays the roll how we stack layers in order to increase cell size.If we keep on increasing the memory the cell size of individual will decrease resulting in less reliability of data. To decrease this 3D NAND were used. Instead of adding more horizontally this add cell vertically like a 3D cuboid by just increasing the thickness of a NAND Flash  memory this will not afftect the data reliability.also one thing nowadays everyone is one is using 3D NAND so it just a marketting to Crucial and not a USP.
